Wouldn’t it be cool if you could replace Siri with ChatGPT on your iPhone or iPad and use AI to its full potential?
While Siri is okay, ChatGPT takes responses to the next level! It isn’t even close. The difference will blow you away!
Well, we’ve got you covered.
It’s so easy to do that even if you have no idea how to customize your iPhone, you can set it up in just a few minutes.
So, let’s get started!
Step By Step Guide: How To Replace Siri With ChatGPT on iPhone
Step 1: Get The Shortcut
Go to the following link to get the Hey GPT shortcut.
Then click ‘Set Up Shortcut.’
You’ll now see the following screen.
To configure the shortcut, you’ll need to enter your OpenAI API Key.
Step 2: Get Your OpenAI API Key
To get your OpenAI API Key, you’ll need to log in to your ChatGPT account at https://platform.openai.com/
You’ll then see the following screen.
Next, click the circle in the top right corner with your details.
You’ll then see a drop-down menu.
Click ‘View API keys.’
You’ll now see the following:
You can now create an API Key here to use with the iPhone Chat GPT shortcut.
To do so, click ‘Create new secret key’
Next, give the secret key a name (While it is optional, it is highly recommended to do so— since if you will be using ChatGPT with many different apps, you can tell which secret key is for which app).
Then click ‘create secret key’
Your secret key is now generated instantly.
Remember to copy it, as you won’t be able to view it again.
Click the two white square icons to the right of the secret key to copy it.
Now go back to the Shortcut app, and paste the API secret key.
Next, click ‘+ Add Shortcut’
The Hey GPT shortcut has now been created!
Step 3: Add Chat GPT Shortcut To Your iPhone Home Screen
Now you can now add the ChatGPT shortcut to your iPhone home screen.
To do so, in the Shortcuts app, on the menu at the bottom of the screen, click on the ‘Shortcuts’ menu.
You should now see the Hey GPT shortcut in the ‘All Shortcuts’ section.
Next, click the 3 dots to the top right of the Hey GPT shortcut (You’ll need to press and hold until you see the following menu).
Click ‘Details’
Then click ‘Add to Home Screen’
You’ll now see the screen below.
Here you can change the home screen name and icon if you like.
Then once you’re done, click ‘Add’ in the top right corner.
You’ll now see the Hey GPT icon, so that you can run the shortcut.
Step 4: Customize The Shortcut
This step is optional, but you can customize the Chat GPT shortcut to suit your preferences.
To do so, in the Shortcuts app, go back to the Shortcuts menu at the bottom of the screen.
Then hold down the three dots on the top right corner of the Hey GPT shortcut again.
This time, go to the ‘Edit’ menu.
You’ll now see the following screen.
In the ‘Speak’ section at the top, where it says ‘What can I do for you?’, you’ll notice a blue circle with a ‘greater than’ arrow.
Click it to expand it
Here you can choose the option ‘wait until finished,’ as well as change the options for rate and pitch. (I recommend keeping these as default, but you can experiment with them).
You can also change the language — there are over 40 available languages.
You can also change the voice if you don’t want to use the default Siri voice. There are over 30 voices to select from.
Step 5: Privacy Options
Now to start using ChatGPT instead of Siri, there are a few privacy settings that need to be enabled.
To do so, click the Hey GPT icon you just created.
This is how you can ask ChatGPT a question.
The first time you use the shortcut, you will be asked to allow Hey GPT to access Speech Recognition.
Click Allow.
Then after you ask your first query, you’ll also be asked to Allow Hey GPT to send 1 text item to api.openai.com.
Click ‘Always Allow’. This is how the shortcut connects with ChatGPT.
Note: If you click ‘Allow Once,’ you’ll have to grant this permission each time you use the ChatGPT shortcut.
Step 6: Use ChatGPT Instead of Siri On Your iPhone
That’s all you need to do to replace Siri on your iPhone!
While it takes a few minutes to set up, this is the only time you will ever need to do so.
Now, anytime you want to ask ChatGPT a question, just click the Hey GPT icon.
The Hey GPT shortcut will appear, and you’ll be asked What can I do for you?
Then, just ask your question, and ChatGPT will give you much more detailed information than Siri!
So, there you have it. In just a few minutes you can replace Siri with ChatGPT on your iPhone.
